This year’s “24 Hours of Concrete Knowledge,” hosted by the American Concrete Institute (ACI), will focus on efforts to achieve sustainability in the concrete industry.

This year will mark the second running of “24 Hours of Concrete Knowledge,” which is billed as “a free, virtual conference that brings together two dozen ACI international chapters and industry partners.”

Antonio Nanni, an ACI vice president, said the conference will be unique because it will give attendees a virtual trip around the world.

"The conference will feature 48 consecutive presentations on timely topics," said Nanni. "There will be opportunities for a live Q&A after each and best of all, it is free for attendees."

'An open platform'

“24 Hours of Concrete Knowledge offers a unique opportunity to get involved with the international concrete community,” said Ronald G. Burg, PE, Executive Vice President, American Concrete Institute. “It also provides an open platform for our speakers to share their expertise with an engaged, global audience.”

Participating chapters, 24 in total, will each be given one hour to moderate discussion with an industry partner. During that time the chapters will be engaging concrete experts to review relevant research, trends and studies.

The conference, which begins on July 12, at 2 p.m. Eastern time, closes registration the day before, on July 11.

What to expect ...

Participating chapters include ACI chapters from Colombia, Ecuador, Paris, Guatemala, India, Iraq, Kurdistan, Italy, Lebanon, Mexico and Singapore.

Some lectures being presented at the event are “Reducing CO2 Emission by Reducing Cement in Concrete,” which will be spoken to by Dr. Saad Al-Taan during the ACI Iraq’s block of time.

A block of time hosted by the Japan Concrete Institute (JCI) features a discussion about “Sustainable Carbon Recycling with Concrete ‘White Carbon,’” hosted by Professor Takafumi Noguchi, University of Tokyo, Director of Engineering.

“This year, because of the global importance of climate change, each participating chapter and partner was asked to make one of their presentations on carbon-neutral concrete and sustainability in the concrete industry,” ACI stated in a release about the event.

Those interested in registering for the event can do so here at ACI’s registration page for the event.
