Last May, in his first President’s Memo as the incoming president of the American Concrete Institute, Cary Kopczynski set out his goal for the Institute. As a structural engineer, Kopczynski wants to create an atmosphere in which fellow engineers want to learn more about the jobsite; collaboration between design professionals, contractors, and material producers can make this happen.   

As chair of the ACI Productivity Task Group, he is working toward this goal. He has tasked ACI to leverage the Institute’s resources to improve productivity in the concrete industry. Kopczynski believes an important focus area will be to evaluate strategies for improving the constructability of designs.

Long a proponent of the concept of Integrated Project Delivery, Kopczynski believes ACI can lead the concrete construction industry to the adoption of the goal: construct good projects, delivered on time, and on budget. And just as important, build incentives so that all stakeholders benefit.
