National Women in Roofing

The 6th annual National Women in Roofing Day, held ahead of the 2023 International Roofing Expo in Dallas March 6-9, brought together women from across various sectors of the roofing industry. A highlight of the day was the presentation of the Women of Outstanding Roofing Leadership Distinction, or WORLD, Awards, to two outstanding women leaders in the industry.

First presented in 2019, the WORLD Awards recognize a veteran of the roofing industry and a rising star who exhibit a deep commitment to the industry and a strong leadership presence.

Rising Star: Erica Sherman | GAF

The 2023 World Award Rising Star recipient is Erica Sherman, building sciences manager for GAF in Parsippany, New Jersey.

Sherman has taken on multiple leadership roles at work and in the community, according to NWiR awards committee chair Lisa Garcia, as well as putting in the time and effort to grow NWiR council membership, plan events and bring on sponsors.

“I feel a sense of pride in her and her accomplishments,” said Garcia, technology innovation specialist at Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance. “She is really putting in the work to move the industry forward and clear a path for other women.”

Veteran: Stephanie Baird | Bliss Roofing

The 2023 WORLD Award Veteran recipient is Stephanie Baird, general manager of Bliss Roofing in Clackamas, Oregon.

“Stephanie’s dedication to her career and her community doesn’t overshadow her dedication to her family and friends,” Garcia said. “She speaks her mind while also making sure others in the room have a chance to speak. Stephanie is a true role model for me personally and many others.”

Baird has almost 30 years’ experience in the roofing industry and has held roles from administrative positions all the way to company general manager. She is a past chair of the NWiR Oregon council and now serves as a member of the community service council.

“We are an aggressive, inspiring movement,” Baird said upon accepting her award. “We’ve come a long way even in the 29 years since I joined the industry.”
