The homeowners of this Guffey, Colorado, remodel wanted a solution to the perpetual maintenance needed on the exterior of their mountain home. The family told contractor KJ Hunt Siding and Windows, of Colorado Springs, that they no longer wanted to worry about “going up and down ladders to keep their siding from falling apart,” nor did they want to pay someone else “thousands of dollars every few years” to maintain it.  

These stipulations—along with the heightened risk of fire damage in Colorado and the family's desire for a rustic look—led the team at KJ Hunt Siding to choose resilient, low-maintenance products for this siding remodel. 

To fit the mountainous aesthetic, the team centered their vision on TruLog’s steel log siding in western cedar. The home’s steel fascia was color matched to the siding and complemented nicely by a musket brown metal soffit. Using steel products designed to mimic the look of natural wood allowed KJ Hunt Siding to give the homeowners a traditional log home look without the cumbersome maintenance they desperately wanted to avoid.  

To further the impression of a realistic look, TruLog says it designs its steel log siding to include hew and chink lines found in authentic wood log siding. The company also noted that its steel log siding incorporates a coating technology with “infrared reflective pigments, which help reduce the energy consumption” of a home.
