CertainTeed®, a leading North American manufacturer of building materials, is pleased to announce it has achieved GreenCircle Certification for Recycled Content for some of its residential roofing products, further establishing CertainTeed’s commitment to sustainability and resource conservation.

Recognized by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), the GreenCircle Certification is one of the most esteemed environmental verifications an organization can earn. Through a thorough assessment process, GreenCircle Certification ensures certified organizations are implementing comprehensive and effective sustainability practices.

After a third-party audit, GreenCircle Certified, LLC verified CertainTeed’s manufacturing facilities in Fremont, California; Jonesburg, Missouri; Portland, Oregon; and Shakopee, Minnesota, were using pre-and post-consumer material as raw material in the manufacturing of new roofing products, thereby limiting substantial amounts of waste during the product development process. Green grass overlaid with white dots connected by thin lines

“The GreenCircle certification supports our mission to provide material transparency, further demonstrating that not only do our products perform well, but are made responsibly,” said Amanda Boyer, product manager, CertainTeed Roofing Products Group  “We’ve found that using recycled content in product development is one of the most effective ways to advance the future of green innovation in the manufacturing process, and we are proud to play our part in reducing the environmental footprint of construction and home building and renovation.”

Innovative product development has been a cornerstone of CertainTeed, as evidenced by achieving great percentages of recycled content in its residential roofing products. The usage of raw material containing high levels of pre-consumer recycled content for product recipes was found at the Fremont, Portland and Shakopee facilities, across different product lines.

Manufacturing with recycled materials is an extension of CertainTeed’s environmental stewardship established by the Roofing Responsibly program, which was designed to encourage homeowners and contractors to recycle old roof systems at the end of their lifecycle. Moreover, CertainTeed has developed a portfolio of patented products and solutions that meet the need for high-performing, energy-efficient materials. CertainTeed’s Landmark Solaris roofing products reflect solar energy and radiant heat far more effectively than standard materials, reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

The attention to responsible product development and design coupled with GreenCircle’s independent certification underscores CertainTeed’s commitment to sustainable building practices and ensures consumers can trust the sourcing behind their products in addition to their performance.
