The three best-selling vehicles in the U.S. for 2022 have, so far, been pickup trucks.

Available data reveals three models—the Ford F-Series, the Chevrolet Silverado and the Ram truck series—grabbed the first, second and third spots, respectively, on the list of top models in America this year.

According to numbers from the MarkLines Data Center, sales of the Ford F-Series pickup truck outpaced other brands for the month of August, with more than 58,000 new models sold.

The next closest vehicle was the Ram pickup, which overtook the Chevrolet Silverado as the second-best-selling vehicle in America in July. Almost 41,000 Ram pickups were sold in August, according to available data, while more than 38,000 Chevrolet Silverados were sold that same month. While Chevrolet and Ram pickup sales showed decreases for July year over year, the Ford F-Series showed more than a 20% increase. That momentum slowed in August, but the F-Series was still selling more models in August 2022 than August 2021. The popularity of pickup trucks shows in the number of overall sales of new vehicles in the U.S. Of the more than 1.1 million new vehicles sold in 2022, over 900,000 of them were light trucks, which includes SUVs.

According to past data from Tools of the Trade, over half of general contractors use pickup trucks for new construction, with 56% of respondents saying a pickup truck was their primary vehicle.
