On Jan. 16, National Women in Roofing will launch REAL Roofing, an  educational program designed to increase awareness and action when it comes to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the industry. 

NWiR has opened enrollment for the seven-week program and will host an interactive webinar Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. ET to provide an overview of the program and answer questions. REAL Roofing is available to all NWiR members for $199 per participant. 

According to NWiR’s press release, the group created the program because “National Women in Roofing prides itself on being innovators and change makers in the industry.” 

Drawing inspiration from the global leadership nonprofit, the Center for Creative Leadership, NWiR’s REAL acronym stands for: 

NWiR noted that REAL Roofing aims to provide a solid foundation in understanding what key terms mean and how to utilize them within the workplace and society. 

Participants will receive an overview of key DEI concepts often needed for the management of personal, interpersonal, institutional and structural change. These include identity and language, bias awareness, discrimination and prejudice, and leadership and culture.  

The course includes 15-minute microlessons delivered via text three times per week. The videos are self-paced and designed to fit within any schedule, and they can be accessed via cellphone or computer. 

Participants will receive a workbook featuring lesson outlines and a glossary of key terms and will have access to an optional, live weekly Zoom meeting for further discussion and community engagement.  

Participants will receive a digital badge upon completion of the program.
