Dave Yoho Receives Congressional Gold Medal

In a nationally televised special session on May 18, Dave Yoho, president of Dave Yoho Associates, was honored with the Congressional Gold Medal for his military service as a U.S. merchant mariner during World War II. Mariners provided supplies to U.S. troops during the war and often found themselves in harm's way. 

Well-known and highly lauded in the construction industries, Yoho founded a residential roofing company at 28, which eventually operated with 22 branches in 13 states and, in the early 1960s, had a volume of over $60 million. He will be the featured speaker at the World War II Memorial on Memorial Day (May 30) at 9 a.m. ET, and will sit in the lead car to start the Memorial Day Parade at 2 p.m. ET.

NRCA Roofing Day in D.C. Prioritizes Workforce Funding and Innovation

Each year, roofing pros gather on Capitol Hill for Roofing Day in D.C. to advocate for the industry. The annual event features speakers and panelists who seek to inform and inspire attendees, according to the National Roofing Contractors Association, and there is ample opportunity to network and connect with fellow industry pros. The 2022 Roofing Day was held virtually April 5-6, prioritizing workforce funding and innovation to address supply chain challenges and labor shortages. Other highlights included conversations on immigration reform and investment and reform of career and technical education.

For those who may have missed Roofing Day, fret not: the NRCA's National Roofing Week 2022 will be held June 5-11. Roofing pros are encouraged to engage in their communities and inform the public about the essential roles played by roofs and professional roofing contractors in every community.

Biden Administration Unveils Housing Supply Action Plan 

The new Housing Supply Action Plan released by the Biden-Harris Administration in May seeks to help close the housing supply gap in the U.S. in five short years. The plan starts with the "creation and preservation of hundreds of thousands of affordable housing units in the next three years," according to the White House press release, and includes policies to boost supply and bring homeownership within reach for Americans struggling to find affordable homes in markets with too few homes for sale. 

Among other things, the plan will deploy new financing mechanisms in order to build and preserve housing where financing gaps exist, expand and improve the existing forms of federal financing (such as for affordable multifamily development), and work with the private sector to tackle supply chain issues and improve building techniques.

Global Windows and Doors Market to Reach $356.4B by 2030
