To innovate is a place few are willing to go.

To be a disruptor is something far less accomplished.

To innovate, disrupt, and deploy is a treasure rarely found in today's society.

The Roofing Technology Thinktank - RT3 is seeking these qualities for the roofing industry. Many times the team feels like Lewis and Clark as we constantly evaluate technology and the possible impact it will have on the industry. We find innovation without the ability to deploy, a disruptor without any other core characteristics, and the list goes on. This is why we, RT3, exist as a consortium of thought leaders exploring emerging technology. Yet there are times when you find a golden treasure, a company, software or visionary who brings all of these values into one place.

A First-hand Look

Sixteen members of RT3 joined together on Aug. 9, one day before the International Roofing Expo, to tour Boxabl. Boxabl is a concept some in our industry have said is a fad that won’t last, or the concept is too foreign for the American consumer to be interested in. Yet, to bring disruptive innovation you cannot listen to others and must focus on the vision.

Boxabl is doing just that. CEO Paolo Tiramanil and co-founder Galiano Tiramani imparted their passion for bringing innovation and disruption to an age-old industry, and deploying at-scale housing for the U.S. and beyond. Tiramanil shared the mission statement to significantly lower the cost of homeownership for everyone, as well as their focus to obsessively design at the highest standards of quality, strength and sustainability to last for generations.

The members from across the U.S. and Canada together learned about the vision to create these at-scale homes. From ordering online to a home built within 90 minutes is a concept few can fathom. Our group took longer learning about the concept, production, installation and transportation than it could take to build a home; this in itself is slightly mind-blowing.

Coming to Life

Walking through a real-life prototype brought it all home, as we were able to see everything from raw materials to a finished Boxable product. Be it tiny home living or a stacked, almost container-style home, the possibilities are truly endless. We were able to see the Boxabl “home in a box” transform into a fully functioning home. Tiramanil also explained the ability for a Boxabl to snap together allowing for the expansion of the home system or, if you so choose, you can pack up your home back up into a box and move to a new location with ease.

This packable home concept breaks down the transportation challenge many modular and component homebuilders have faced for decades. The Boxabl home can now be loaded on a trailer, train car, semi or shipping Freightliner and delivered to literally anywhere in the world.

I began envisioning how I can bring others to see and embrace this concept. I truly feel Boxabl will revolutionize a portion of the industry.”

In the coming weeks and months, the RT3 team will be sharing more about their journey and how the roofing industry can excel with this disruptive housing solution. If you are interested in following this topic please join or follow us on social media.
