Most inground pools can add an automatic pool cover at any time. There are several different automatic pool cover and track options, of which we've outlined below:

Manual pool covers

This type of pool cover system is designed for small to medium-sized pools and features a low-profile on-deck mounted track. The cover is retracted with a hand crank and is extended over the pool by pulling a rope that’s connected to a handle.

This is a great option for homeowners who want an entry-level cover with an option to upgrade to fully motorized later. Manual pool covers are more affordable than electric-powered covers, which is a big advantage for homeowners who have budget restrictions.

Electric-powered pool covers

These covers operate via a rope and pulley system where the hand crank is replaced with an electrical motor. With these systems, opening and closing the pool is as easy as pushing a button, though there is some electrical work to be done to run the necessary power to the motor.

Some key advantages of this type of cover include that electric-powered covers are said to reduce the amount of energy needed for the filtration of the pool.

On-deck tracks

This type of pool cover is installed onto the homeowner’s pool deck. A set of low-profile tracks run the length of their pool, with the cover reel at one of the ends. The advantage of on-deck track systems is that installation on any shape pool is easy since the track sits on top of the deck.

Under coping or hidden tracks

If your homeowner wants to completely hide the track and cover of their pool, the under-coping automatic pool cover is what you need. The tracks are built into the pool, between the frame and the coping. In most instances, the reel itself is also hidden as it's installed in the deck. This allows for a very clean installation but can only be installed on rectangle pools and is not recommended for existing pools as it would require tearing out some of the existing decking.
